FAQ

Getting Started

How does the AlertED app work?

Once your account is created, your administrator can invite new users directly from within the app. New users receive an email invitation and create an account using their registered email address. Once they’ve logged in and configured their device sound settings, they can trigger or receive lockdown alerts to every other registered device at their school.

How is the app rolled out across a school?

Your administrator invites users from within the app. Each new user receives an email invitation, downloads the app, logs in, and configures their device’s sound settings. From that point, they can trigger or receive lockdown alerts to every other registered device at the school.

How do I sign up for the AlertED lockdown app?

You can sign up to AlertED at portal.alertedsafeguarding.com.

How do I add more users to my account?

Administrators can invite new users from the settings screen within the app, and can change user permissions to add or remove account administrators at any time.

Can I have multiple schools on the app?

Yes. A staff member can be registered across multiple schools, as either a staff member or an administrator, and can switch between schools depending on where they’re working that day.

Do all devices in a school need to be on the same operating system?

No. A school can use a mix of iOS and Android devices — they’re all linked together by being registered to the same school account.

Devices & Alarm Performance

What devices does the AlertED app work on?

AlertED is compatible with iOS and Android and works on all modern devices running the latest three versions of either operating system. iPhones and iOS tablets are recommended, thanks to Apple’s advanced critical alert functionality.

Which devices are recommended for the AlertED app?

We recommend Apple iOS devices, as their critical alert functionality allows the app to reliably bypass silent mode. Android also allows the app to bypass Do Not Disturb, though this varies by device and manufacturer.

How loud does the AlertED app alarm sound?

Volume depends on the device and its settings. On iOS devices, AlertED uses critical alert functionality to bypass silent mode and sound an alarm at 90dB or above — we’ve recorded up to 100dB on iPhones and iOS tablets. Android devices have also tested above 90dB.

What if a device is on silent mode when a lockdown is triggered?

On iOS devices, AlertED will bypass silent mode and sound an alarm above 90dB. Android behaviour varies by device, and some require sound to be enabled in advance.

Features & Pricing

What features does the app have?

AlertED lets any registered device trigger a lockdown alert to every other device linked to the same account. The app records when each device acknowledges the alert, and when each user confirms their room is secured — giving schools the data to report how quickly each area locked down, supporting OFSTED reporting and helping identify areas for improvement. AlertED also stores key lockdown documents that are pushed to all staff the moment a lockdown is triggered, including a lockdown checklist, lockdown procedure, contacts list, and school layout/evacuation map.

How much does the AlertED lockdown app cost?

AlertED offers significantly better value than a traditional lockdown alarm installation, which often costs tens of thousands of pounds to fit. AlertED is currently available from £58.99/month for up to 30 devices, or £64.99/month for unlimited devices.

Is AlertED just for schools?

No — AlertED can be used in any setting, with no restriction on who can use it. It was designed to help schools lock down faster by empowering staff to trigger an alert from any location, but we’re glad to see it used to enhance safety in other settings too.
